About Dennis Minnis!
Who is Dennis Minnis
Family: I am happily married to my wife Amy. We have two beautiful daughters.
Education: I graduated from Nelson Co. High School 1991. I graduated with a degree in Physical Education from Lee University in 1998, and I earned my Masters Degree in 2006 from Indiana Wesleyan University with a 4.0 G.P.A. .
Work Philosophy: I know what it means to work hard. I love giving my very best to those that I work with. There is joy to be had in working hard. Life is a gift and I want to spend my life giving back to my family, community and school. I have used the platform of physical education to better the lives of my students by teaching them how to set goals that are worth pursuing.
Teaching: I began teaching in 1998 at Mountain View Christian Academy where I was the schools Athletic Director, P.E. Teacher, track coach and one of our basketball coaches! I learned so much from that wonderful school. In 1999 I started teaching at Taylor Elementary School in Cleveland, TN where I revamped their P.E. program before coming to KY in 2001. I taught P.E. in Nelson County from 2001-2004. While in Nelson County I coached the Nelson County Cardinals Cross Country Team which was a great experience as I made so many good friends through the running program. I taught physical education and health at Maryville Elementary School from 2004-2016. Both the chess and cross country programs have helped produce a number of talented runners and chess players.
North Bullitt
I am beginning my seventh year at North Bullitt High School. I will be teaching boys freshman health, freshman boys physical education, and athletic conditioning. I am looking forward to a great school year! I have coached chess here at NBHS the past five years. North finished runner-up in 2022 to Manual High School in 2022 losing 17-16. North also finished regional runner-up in 2023 losing to Manual High School again 17-14. North will compete for the State Team Chess Championship March 25.
Fuel Up To Play 60: This is a program that I am fully involved with that helps build student leaders through the platform of nutrition and fitness. I will be recruiting students in grades 9-12 who would like to become student ambassadors for North Bullitt High School.
Twitter: This is where I learn more about health and physical education. You can follow me and learn more about health and physical education here! @dm4pe is my Twitter handle.
Favorite Sports: Cross Country running. I was a member of the Nelson County Cross Country Program from 1987-1991. I helped coach the Nelson County Cross Country from 2001-2003. I coached Maryville from 2004-2011. 2011 was the last season that I coached cross country but during my time leading our team with other teachers from MES we had a great time seeing kids set goals, win races ,and building positive life long memories. I enjoy this sport as it gives each person a great workout when they give their best effort. I also like the fact that cross country gives quick feed back, and fans cannot complain about a bad call by a referee as winning and losing most of the time comes down to who has trained the most effectively. Meets are a reward after a series of hard workouts in prep for the big day!
What I do outside of school: Bible studies with my Connect Group at Little Flock Baptist Church and hanging out with friends. Some times you may catch me playing basketball or going for a jog, or bike ride in the community. I also enjoy coaching chess. I currently coach Maryville, Hebron and North Bullitt. I am also the chess director for Bullitt County Public Schools. I have been coaching chess in Bullitt County since 2004. Right now I am also working on getting back into running shape by doing not only running, but also biking, weight training, and other full body workouts.
What I love to do the most outside of school is to spend time with my family. I have two beautiful young daughters with my beautiful and wonderful wife Amy who I have been married to for 23 years.
Sincerely,
Dennis Minnis
